Progress at APEC on Dialogue Recommendations

The Report on the outcomes and recommendations of the Hanoi Dialogue was discussed at the February meeting of the APEC Committee of Trade and Investment. The Committee agreed that further work and examination of the recommendations in the Report should be undertaken. The specialist Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance (SCSC) will do this task.

The role of SCSC is to“to help reduce the negative effects that differing standards and conformance arrangements have on trade and investment flows in the Asia-Pacific region.” 

This is good news. Best practice advertising regulation in the Asia-Pacific region is now firmly part of the APEC mandate and is under action. Furthermore a committee that has harmonization as its mission is doing the work.
